Medicolegal Death Investigations
Death investigations where the circumstances of death are not obvious can be some of the most challenging kinds of cases.
This is because it is difficult to understand the importance of the non-obvious things present at the scene. Both Medical examiners and coroners regularly use the Leica ScanStation in their investigations.
Death scene investigators have deployed ScanStations at cold scenes going back 20-30 years to try and understand what happened. In New York City the Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner regularly deploys the ScanStation for their important work and for mass casualty training incidents. Many agencies fund the purchase of their Leica systems through UASI grants.
