What’s the best way to prepare public safety professionals to respond appropriately in stressful situations? Virtual reality promises to provide an immersive experience. However, to be effective, the simulations must be accurate. Reality in Virtual Reality Ltd. (RiVR), a developer of VR experiences in England, is combining real-world training of firefighters, police officers, and crime scene investigators with an immersive photorealistic VR experience to engage and retain students. Developed using the Leica RTC360 laser scanner in combination with photogrammetry, the simulations provide valuable context and locational awareness of situations that would be otherwise difficult to replicate without significant costs and risks.
